7th of April, 2012. I Mizar's 10th jubilee concert and celebration at Budapest Jazz Club

Our band, The Mizar was formed early in the year 2002, our 10th birthday party was celebrated, and a special gig was performed in the Budapest Jazz Club in 7th of April, 2012. We have celebrated with our audience, friends and colleagues. We want to thank them all those hard but joyful years of experience.

We have found a YouTube movie: fine young american jazz musicians, The Shazz Combo playing Mizar's Just For Fun, Fanni Sárközy's first composition from 2002. Soloists are Alan Spencer on tenor sax, Anthoni Polcari on electric bass, and Lorenz Mallari on piano. It's an honor!

Mr. Bobby McFerrin was on a gig here in Budapest, and we could manage to give him one piece of our Natural Design CD, witch is important for us, because his music inspired us a lot. We hope he will enjoy it!
(Even our bandmate, Peter was trying to make some acapella things at home... Better luck next time, Peter! :) )

We are thrilled by the
attention that we have been getting from smoothjazz.com,
the world’s leading online radio station and destination in smooth
jazz. They picked three songs from Natural Design for airplay and
published an interview with us on their site along with a warm album
review by SJC founder Sandy Shore. It is really fascinating and
inspiring to see Mizar next to the biggest names of contemporary jazz.

it's new album calles Natural Design to a full house at the Zugló Smooth
Jazz Club in Budapest.

20th of March, 2009. I Mizar - Natural Design: Our second album is out now
|
|
Mizar’s second album, Natural Design is released on Beagle
Beat Records. Featuring nine English-language songs and an
instrumental, the album is also available internationally both in
physical CD and digital format. Again we had the pleasure to have some
outstanding guest artists on the record like Gábor Kollmann on saxophone
(Budapest Jazz Orchestra), Edina Szirtes on violin (Free Style Chamber
Orchestra), Balázs Szendőfi on bass (Lower House), Máté Pálhegyi on
flute (Free Style Chamber Orchestra) and others.

ceremony of 90.9
Jazzy’s 2nd song contest at the prestigious Palace of Arts in
Budapest. We also had the honor to deliver the winner’s prize.

June of 2008. I Balatonfüred - Guinness Record - Worlds Longest Live Concert
|

The Guinness Record of the
World’s Longest Concert was achieved by Hungarian musicians at
Balatonfüred with a show that lasted for 216 hours in 2008. The concert
also featured Mizar.

18th of March, 2008. I Rövid, de kemény... életem (Short but hard... life of my) new comedy at the cinemas with Mizar music

With the soundtrack composed and played by Mizar,
the second feature film (again a comedy) by István Nyíri–Kovács titled Rövid, de kemény…
életem [My short but hard… life] premiered in theatres in
Hungary. The movie won several prizes at various film festivals.

Hungarian State Radio
invited us to play a concert at their legendary Marble Hall where a
stellar roster of local and international jazz artists played in the
past decades. The concert was recorded and aired by the station.

Our first album, Leszek én… [And I’ll Be…] has been
released. Some tracks are in Hungarian while some others are in English.
The album features great guest musicians like Zoltán Bacsa on trumpet
(Kecskemét Jazz Orchestra), Balázs Kovács on oboe (Cologne Philharmonic
Orchestra, Germany), Nikola Parov – kaval (Riverdance, USA), Dániel
Mester – sax (Modern Art Orchestra) and others.

Another Mizar song was
selected into a soundtrack, this time for the short film Előjáték
[Foreplay] by István Nyíri–Kovács. The film won the 3rd prize at the
38th Budapest Indie Film Festival.

Hungarian
Catholic Radio invited us to record to songs at their studios in
Budapest. The songs have been in regular rotation at the station since
then.

4th of November, 2006. I Szűzijáték (Virgin Games) - Hungarian movie at the cinemas with Mizar's music
|
|
On the request of
scriptwriter and film director István Nyíri–Kovács, Mizar wrote and
recorded the soundtrack for the comedy movie Szűzijáték
[Virgin Game]. The film was played in 16 theatres, holds the record of
the most viewed independent movie and won the Grand Prix of the 13th
National Youth and Student Film Festival in Hungary.

We won the second prize at
the 6th Pop-Rock-Jazz Festival in Paks, Hungary. We also picked up the
special awards for best keyboard player (Fanni Sárközy), best drummer
(Gábor Pusztai) and best bass player (Péter Bakaja).

Mizar and Színhang Műhely
Egyesület (a contemporary art association) staged a spectacular
multi-art festival at Budapest Millenáris Park. The event encompassed a
contemporary art exhibition, a reading, a book presentation and a Mizar
concert with a total of 11 musicians on stage. One prominent guest
artist was pianist and composer Tibor Márkus, assistant professor at the
jazz faculty of the Liszt Ferenc College of Music.

Mizar was invited by Hungarian State Radio
to record some own songs at Studio 8 (a legendary recording location
for Hungarian musicians) which would then get regular airplay.

1th of June, 2002. I LGT Festival, National Music Contest
|
|
Mizar won the second prize
at the LGT National Talent Search Festival. The finals were held at the
Hajógyári Sziget [Shipyard Island] of Budapest where we played LGT
covers and some own compositions. The jury consisted of well-known
Hungarian artists.
